The third son of Gottlieb Andreas and Maria Dorothea nee Roediger) Friedrich Eduard Schuetze was born 21 September 1847 in Kochstedt, Germany. He became a River Captain - obtaining his Master's Certificate No. 461 on the 30 September 1889. The boats he captained included “The Fairy” and the “Golconda”. He was a gentle natured and generous man (as was his elder brother Wilhelm) and one of Mannum's favourite River Captains. Owing to his foresight Mannum now possesses the finest recreation and children's playground on the River Murray. He was a life member and Vice President of the Mannum Rowing Club and took a keen interest in the formation of the Mannum Agricultural Society. He was a member of the local Rifle Club and also the founder of the Mannum Water Trust.

In 1882 Friedrich took over the licence of the Bogan Hotel from his brother Gottlieb Wilhelm, which he held until 1884 when it was taken over by I (or J.) McMillan.

Youngest daughter of Friedrich and Minnie was Ella Girtrude born 20 May 1884 in Mannum. She married Oscar Lionel Isaachsen 28 December 1910 in the St John the Baptist Church, Murray Bridge, SA.

The last child born to Friedrich and Minnie was a son - Albert Edward (11 September 1885). He served in the AIF in WWI enlisting in Port Pirie, South Australia on 27/4/1916 aged 30½. He embarked on “Africa” on 7/11/1916 and disembarked Plymouth, England 9/1/1917. He was wounded in action in France 26/9/1917 (gun shot wounds to arm and leg) and returned to hospital in Edgbaston, England on 16/10/1917. He returned to fight again in France 23/4/1918 and on 28/1/1919 he received concussion and abrasions whilst in the field and on 22/4/1919 returned to England.

After demobilisation he returned to Australia per HT “Swakopmund” embarking 15/6/1919 and disembarked Australia 30/7/1919. He was discharged on 29/9/1919. (From National Archives War Service Record).
