     Rebecca:
OBIT (from "Border Watch" Wed 27 Nov 1907)
Mrs Rebecca Lewis, relict of the late Mr Thomas Lewis, an old resident of Sanford & Strathdownie, died on Sunday at the
res. of her daughter Mrs W Millard of Mark Street Mt Gambier. She came to Mt Gambier some weeks ago on a visit to her
daughter and whilst with her received a stroke of paralysis which was the cause of her death. She was 83 years of age.
She leaves 3 sons, George & Henry Lewis of Casterton & John Lewis of Mt Gambier and her 2 daughters Mrs George Stone of
Strathdownie and Mrs W Millard of Mt Gambier.
Born Bury St Edmund England 1824 (NOTE: no proof of this ever located - now known to have been born to William and Rebecca (nee Howard) Brame
in Quendon, Essex). Arrived age about 7 in Tasmania where she afterwards m. Mr Thos. Lewis who predeceased her by
about 34 years. In company with her husband she left Tas. and landed at Portland, and they then made their way to
Mr E Henty's MUNTHAM STATION for some 6 months. Then to Mr F Henty's MERINO DOWNS STATION for a no. of years, then to
Sandford for about 10 or 12 yrs.
**NOTE: I have so far, despite much research, been unable to find any proof or documentation relating to Rebecca's birth
**NOTE: See BRAME page for later information located regarding the birth of Rebecca and Sarah and a brother William who died as an infant.
**NOTE: New information has recently been discovered that appears to show that Sarah's husband William Braham did actually
travel to Australia back in 1832. There is even indication that Rebecca's sister Sarah may have been in contact with him prior to her marriage
to Joseph Speed in 1844 in Kempton, Tasmania. See Brame for latest details in this ongoing saga.
