Following are two excerpts from “The Border Watch ”, Mt Gambier, South Australia dated 1st and 5th October, 1880

Mr Wilke and his wife Maria (nee Schuetze) were of German descent. Rudolf was born in Hamburg and arrived with his parents aboard the “Livonia” in 1876.

They were pioneers of the Port MacDonnell District of South East South Australia where Rudolf Wilke operated a bark mill that employed a number of the local men.

He served on the Port MacDonnell Council for over twenty years and died in 1926 aged 80 years.

The newspaper story relates to Mary (Maria) Wilke nee Schuetze.
